How To Remove Text Box In Word For Mac
Microsoft Word has a feature whereby you can hide text so that it does not visibly appear in the document. If you don’t want to delete text completely, hiding the text is a good option.
Find the 'Draw Text Box' option at the bottom left of the window and click this option. Position your cursor wherever you desire the box to be in your document. Click and drag your mouse across the document to create the box.
- Choose Tools > Annotate > Text, then type. You can move a text box anywhere on the document. To show the font, size, and color options for text in a text box, choose View > Show Markup Toolbar, then click.

So why would you ever want to hide text in a Word document? Well, one reason would be if you wanted to print out two different versions of the same document, but didn’t want to create two separate files. In this case, you could hide some text, print the file and then print the document again, but choose to print hidden text in the printing options dialog.
In this article I will show you how to hide text in Word, how to view hidden text, and how to hide text and how to make it so that someone else can’t edit the hidden text. Note that you can hide text in Office for Mac in the exact same way as shown below.
Hide Text in Word 2007, 2010, 2013
First open any document you might have that has a fair amount of text in it. Here is an example document I am using for illustrative purposes.
Highlight the text that you would like to hide and then right-click on it and choose Font.
In the Font dialog box, you’ll see the Hidden checkbox in the Effects section. Go ahead and check that box.
Click OK and POOF, your text is now gone! All I am left with is one paragraph with no sign of the other paragraph. The paragraph still exists and there are some interesting questions that arise now that it’s hidden.
The first question that popped into my mind was what happens if I start typing in the blank area that held the text earlier? Well, I went ahead and tested it out by typing another paragraph where the hidden text was previously.
So what happened? Well, I’ll explain that in the next section when I talk about viewing hidden text in Word.
View Hidden Text in Word
Ok, so how do we go about getting the hidden text back to show up again the document? We basically follow the same procedure that when we hid the text. Press CTRL + A to highlight everything in the document, right-click on any highlighted portion and choose Font again. This time you will see the Hidden checkbox does not have a checkmark in it, but is instead fully green.
This means that some of the text selected is hidden and some is visible. Clicking on it once will change it into a checkmark, which means all the text in the document will be hidden and clicking on it again will remove the checkmark, meaning no text in the document should be hidden.
The hidden text is now visible, but as you can see, it’s in a slightly different location. It’s now located under the paragraph that I had typed when the text was hidden. So instead of being overwritten, it simply gets pushed down. If you want the text to remain in a certain place, you can click on the Show/Hide Paragraph Marks button and it will show you the hidden text with a special dotted underline.
You can then start a new paragraph in the location you want and then click the button to hide the text again. Now that you know how to hide and show hidden text, let’s talk about how to print it.
Printing Hidden Text in Word
Printing hidden text in Word requires heading into the options section of the Print dialog. When you go to File and then Print, click on Page Setup at the bottom.
In the Page Setup dialog, click on the Paper tab and then click on Print Options.
This will bring up the Word Options dialog box with the Display tab already selected. Here you will see a Print hidden text box under Printing Options.
You can also get to this dialog by clicking on File, then Options and then clicking on the Display tab. This setting is global, so you’ll have to go back and uncheck it later on if you don’t want to print hidden text for a different document.
So now that we know how to hide and show text, maybe you also want to prevent others from editing the hidden text? Well that is also possible as I show below.
Protect Word Document
Unfortunately, there is no way to completely hide hidden text in Word. If you send a document to someone that has hidden text, they will be able to view it if they know any of the procedures shown above. You can, however, prevent anyone from editing the text.
Protecting the document will prevent anyone from making any changes to any text. It will allow users to view the document, but not make any changes.
How To Remove Text Box Border In Word
Click on the Review tab and click on Protect Document or Restrict Editing depending on your version of Office.
Check the Limit formatting to a selection of styles box and click on the Settings button.
In the Formatting Restrictions dialog, check the box again and click on None to make sure nothing can be changed in terms of formatting and style.
Click OK and you’ll get a pop up message asking if you want to remove some formatting styles that aren’t allowed. Make sure to click NO. If you click Yes, it will remove the hidden attribute from the hidden text and it will become visible again.
Next, check the box Allow only this type of editing in the document and leave it as No Changes (Read only).
How To Remove Text Box Border In Word On Mac
Under Exceptions, you can leave everything unchecked. Finally, click on the Yes, Start Enforcing Protection button and enter a password to protect the Word document. Try to make the password more than 8 characters, especially if you are using an earlier version of Office.

You know what we mean: you copy something from a webpage into an email message or and that it retains its font, size, color, and other features, when all you want is just the text.
Create a shortcut to paste unformatted text into a Word document. One way to leave formatting behind is to use Word's Show Paste Options feature, which offers the Match Destination Formatting.
To use this Office keyboard shortcut, you must first turn off the Mac OS X keyboard shortcut for this key. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences. Under Hardware, click Keyboard. This specification defines the association of a new function 'Paste Unformatted Text' with a keyboard shortcut ( CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-V on Windows/Linux, Cmd-Option-Shift-V on Mac) The chosen shortcut is already used in Mac OS X platform, and equivalent shortcut is chosen for Windows/Linux for cross-platform consistency.
There are actually a couple ways to copy and paste text without the formatting. Many folks copy the text in question, paste it into a blank TextEdit document, and then copy the plain text from there and paste it into your target document.

That’s a perfectly acceptable way to go about things, but it’s a little unwieldy and time consuming. Plus, if you’re pasting a really large amount of text, say in the neighborhood of dozens or even hundreds of pages, you’re going to want a better way.

Luckily there is a better way. Just copy your text into the clipboard and then press Command+Option+Shift+V on your keyboard.
When you paste your unformatted text, you will then need to go through and reformat to your preferences.
The keyboard combination should work on the majority of Mac apps whether you’re pasting into email, a note, and so forth. It won’t however, work as intended on a Microsoft Word document. Word appropriates the Command+Option+Shift+V shortcut for its own purposes. Instead, you will have to use Command+Control+V.
What Qualifies As A Dependent
When you do, a Paste Special dialog will appear asking how you want to paste your text. Just choose “Unformatted Text” and click “OK”.
Hopefully this will help you understand your options when pasting text from one place to another. While sometimes you may want to hang onto the formatting, other times stripping it all out is preferable.
Just remember, Command+Option+Shift+V will do the job almost every time except with notable exceptions like Word. If the keyboard shortcut doesn’t work and you can’t figure it out, then you can always resort to the TextEdit method.

(Same for.cpp files,.txt files, etc) _ How it currently works: Files (ex:.py files) are associated with their default program (in my case, Sublime text editor). The program (Sublime) then gets to choose what icon to show.
It is possible to manually edit the program's (Sublime's) code to change the icons. Details: (I have done this with Sublime) _ Why this result is not enough: I recently switched to the Atom text editor which broke all the icons I had setup in Sublime.
In addition, I can't change the icons for Atom like I did in Sublime. The Atom editor's plist file and resources folder is not setup like Sublime. (It is still possible, but rather than renaming/replacing things, Atom actually requires additional code to be written/modified, and I don't have the skill/knowledge to just write the necessary code, and I cannot find any tutorial for learning how) I (and I believe many others) would prefer that the file icon was set independently from what the default program is.
(I mean an Excel file should look like an Excel file whether or not I open it with Microsoft Excel, Numbers, or Sublime) _ Possible solution: It might be possible to fix this with an opener-app. If an opener-app is made the default opener for all file extensions, it would be able to set the icon for all those extensions. Then when the opener-app opens a file (for example.py file) it could then open that file with another program (for example Sublime).
This way the default program could be changed through the opener-app, (for example, changing the opener-app to have all.py files open the Atom Editor) but, because the opener-app is still technically the default, all the file-icons remain unchanged. _ Question: Does anyone know of an app that does this already? (If you know of any resources on how to create an app like this, I'd be happy to use them to make the app myself, and post the answer here). I was able to create an app for exactly what I was talking about using AppleScript and simply copying most of the Sublime support files.
Setup For yourself I would not recommend downloading ANYONE's custom-made-easily-could-have-a-virus app. Free text editor for python. However, I will leave this here for people to look at. Hopefully in the future I'll make this an app on the App Store but that might take awhile. In the meantime, I'd recommend reading the code to make sure it's not malicious.
Download = Open script editor (a built-in Mac app) Choose File -> Open -> where ever you downloaded the app You will then be viewing the grand total of 5 lines of code I wrote. Change 'Atom' to whatever app you want to be your default. Save the file ( command + s). Move the app to your applications folder. Find a file you want to change the icon of (lets say a text file). Click the file once (highlight it), press command + i, go to the open with section.
Choose DefaultOpener from the list, then click change all. You will probably have to reboot and toggle the show icon preview button (found in Finder's View Options) a few times for the icons to refresh and get replaced. I have a few default icons already loaded up ( Text files, cpp files, bash/shell files, python, and about 7 others), but if you want to add your own: • Open your applications folder • Right click on DefaultOpener • Choose show package content • Then open the content folder • Then open the resources folder • Then replace whatever icon with your own icon!
(Note your replacement icon will need to be a.icns file) • Restart and toggle the show icon preview button a few times 90% of all those other folders and things are support files that were just straight up copied out of the Sublime Text 3 app. You can even open most them and see sublime's name all in them. (There's no actual Sublime app or packages in there, just the basic support files that almost all apps have).
